Is it possible to determine the electrical conductivity of soil using a pH meter?

Hi S.K. Sahu,

Thank you for your question regarding soil electrical conductivity tests, it is our pleasure to help.

No, pH-meters will not provide you with an accurate understanding of soil conductivity.  To our knowledge there is no correlation between pH levels and specific resistances of soils.

Here is a link with detailed information regarding how to properly test the soil resistivity, or as you call it soil conductivity.

You should also be able to find additional information in our blog.  We recently responded to a question from India regarding proper soil resistivity testing during monsoon conditions. You will certainly be able to find even more information on soil testing if you make a careful search through our blog:

We hope you find this information useful, please do not hesitate to contact us again in the future should you need any help.
