Soil
resistivity testing is the cornerstone
for building a solid site design or when
conducting a GPR study. Knowing how conductive
or resistive the soil is can be critical.
A properly conducted soil resistivity
test arms one with the information needed
to ensure the safety of equipment and
personnel when building your site. A proper
soil resistivity test can also save valuable
time and money. It takes the guesswork
out of the construction and design process
and gives a predictable outcome. The most
reliable and widely accepted soil resistivity
test in the world today is the Wenner
4-point Test Method.
The Wenner 4-point Soil Resistivity test
is conducted by using 4 probes spaced
at equal distances across the surface
of the earth in a straight line. The distance
that the probes are spaced is approximate
to the depth into the soil that the test
will read. Multiple tests are typically
conducted at a variety of probe spacing.
The resultant data can then be entered
into specialized computer software and
specific resistivity reading at various
depths can be calculated.
E&S Grounding Solutions has the equipment,
software, and experience needed to properly
perform soil resistivity testing. Utilizing
the Wenner 4-point Test Method, E&S
can accurately model the electrical resistance
characteristics of the soil at your site.
Our trained technicians know where and
how to conduct the tests so that the minimum
amount of electrical interference will
not affect the test results at your site.
With the correct soil resistivity information,
you now have the tool needed to build
a safe and cost-effective design.
