II. GENERAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Custom installation instructions available
for your specific application.
A. Earth Excavation
*** Verify safe excavation by contacting
your local utility agencies before digging. ***
- “S-Series” Straight Shaft Models
- Using a 4” auger, drill a hole into the earth
10’ 6” deep.
- Dispose of soils in accordance with local regulation.
- “L-Series” Horizontal Shaft Model
- Excavate a 4” wide trench, 3’ 6”
deep equal to the length of the horizontal section of
the electrode. Excavation can be done with a “Ditch
Witch” or with simple hand tools.
- Dispose of soils in accordance with local regulation.
B. E-Rod & E-Fill Preparation
- Prepare the conductive E-Fill ground resistance enhancing
material by mixing each 50 lb. bag with 13 gallons of water,
forming a thick slurry.
- Prepare the E-Rod by removing the sealing tape from the
drainage holes.
- For “L-Series” installations, ensure that
the drainage holes are pointed down.
C. E-Rod Installation
- Place E-rod into the trench or hole.
- Additional segments of E-Rod are added by removing plastic
end-caps and tightening the pipe couplers together, as the
tube is lowered into the hole.
- Cover top drainage holes (sometimes called air-holes)
with a plastic bag or tape to prevent E-Fill slurry from
clogging the holes.
- Pour E-Fill slurry around the E-Rod, stopping at the conductor
connection and making sure that the top drainage holes are
NOT covered with the slurry.
D. E-Box Installation
- Place E-Box Testing Well over the top of the E-Rod so
that the top of the E-Box is flush with the surrounding
grade.
- Using similar materials as the surrounding grade, backfill
or grout in the box until it is stabilized and secure.
- Remove the protective covering from the top drainage holes
(air-holes).
