Thank you for your question regarding grounding standards for the Telecommunications Industry, it is our pleasure to help.
In the United States, the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) has issued a joint standard with ANSI & EIA groups which covers grounding/earthing and bonding requirements for telecommunications sites. This document has become well established in recent years and is in extensive use in North America. The document number is ANSI-TIA-EIA-J-STD-607-A. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TIA_J-STD-607
Another standard commonly used in the United States for Telecommunications sites is the Motorola R56 Standards & Guidelines for Communications Sites. This is an excellent document that is well written and easy to understand. It also has a series of illustrations that are very descriptive of what is required. It is a very popular document with engineers and technicians as its plain language and logical layout make it very easy to understand and implement in real-world situations. This may be one of your best sources of information. http://motorola-wls.motolms.com/Secure/Course_Description.asp?number=ANT001-CD
Internationally, many countries are governed by IEC 60364 “Electrical Installations for Buildings”, which is the International Electrotechnical Commission’s international standard on electrical installations of buildings. However, this is not a standard specifically geared toward telecommunications. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_60364
Most international telecommunications sites follow either the EIA standards, or some form of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) rules. This group has a list of various standards regulating the European telecommunications industry. Grounding/earthing is governed under ETSI EN 300 253 standard. You should be able to Google this standard and find a great deal of information.
Hopefully this will get you started! Please keep us informed on your progress and good luck on your degree!
